Painting your own RC car body can be a rewarding and challenging experience. While it may take some time to get the hang of it, painting your own RC car body can save you money and allow you to personalize your car. Follow these steps to learn how to paint an RC car body.
First, remove the body from the RC car. Next, wash the body with soapy water to remove any dirt or grime. Then, sand the body with sandpaper to rough up the surface. Next, paint the body with a primer. Once the primer is dry, paint the body with the color of your choice. Allow the paint to dry completely before reassembling the RC car.
What kind of paint do you use on RC bodies?
Enamel and acrylic paints are the best types of paints to use for an overall paint job on an RC body. Enamel paints provide a smooth, durable finish that is resistant to chipping and fading, while acrylic paints dry quickly and provide good coverage.
It is always best to paint in a clean and well-ventilated area. When painting, always use a smooth side to side motion. When using spray paint, be sure to apply an even coat.
Do you scuff RC bodies before paint
Scuffing the surface of your painting surface can help the paint to better adhere. Use very fine sandpaper or steel wool to lightly scratch the surface before you begin painting.
It’s important to wash your RC vehicle body before you start painting it in order to get the best results. Use a non-abrasive dish soap and water to wash the RC body thoroughly, making sure to target any dust and debris. Then dry it off with a soft, lint-free cloth before painting.

1.To remove the peel coat, use a sharp hobby knife and carefully score along the edge of the body.
2.Start at one end and work your way around the entire body.
3.Once the peel coat is removed, the body will be clear and glossy.
It is always best to wait 15-20 minutes in between coats when painting. This will allow the paint to fully set and dry in between coats, giving you the best finished product. Depending on the colour and opacity of your paint, you may need to apply 3-4 coats in order to get the desired look.
Can you use regular spray paint on RC cars?
If you’re looking to paint your RC body, it’s important to choose the right paint for the job. Most RC bodies are made out of clear polycarbonate, which requires a special kind of paint in order to stick properly. Regular spray paints simply won’t do the trick, so be sure to pick up something that’s specifically designed for painting polycarbonate.
We all know that Lexan requires special paint. This is because not much sticks to it, and when the body flexes, regular paint will crack and flake off. The problem is that Pactra and Tamiya PS Lexan paints are $7 for a tiny 3oz can of spray paint. I’ve found an alternative, it’ SEM’s Color Coat. This stuff comes in a 12 oz can for about $10 and it works great! The paint is flexible and tough, and it adheres well to Lexan. I highly recommend it for anyone looking for an economical alternative to the expensive Lexan paints.
Does sand damage RC cars
If you’re driving on the beach, be sure to take extra care to avoid getting sand in your motor/engine. It can ruin the engine and make cleaning a pain.
When painting a room, it is recommended to follow a certain order: first paint the trim, then the ceiling, and lastly the walls. This is because it is often easier and faster to tape off the trim than the walls. By following this order, you can ensure that your room is painted efficiently and correctly.

Before shooting paint, I use an alcohol wipe down in a pump sprayer. The alcohol gets very cold and evaporates quickly, leaving a clean surface for paint.
How do you seal RC paint
It’s your flex seal spray a coat on the inside you’re gonna use clear or white I you I like the white myself and it’s going to give you a nice even coat and then you let that dry for about 24 hours before you use it
It’s always important to use a primer when painting, especially when using lighter colors. I used the light gray Tamiya primer for this project and it worked great. Make sure to follow the directions on the can and apply it evenly for best results.
How long does Lexan paint take to cure?
A standard thermoforming process generally2hours drying time per mm. thickness of the sheet at 120°C is recommended. LEXAN™ sheet, a polycarbonate product, can be thermoformed into a wide variety of applications.
If your RC car and its electronic parts are waterproof, you can spray it with warm water and detergent. Using a toothbrush, thoroughly clean the bearings, suspension, wheels & chassis to remove any caked dirt or mud. Ensure that you dry your RC car in sunlight once you are done with the cleaning.
How do I toughen up my RC body
Applying drywall tape is a great way to seal up any cracks or crevices in your walls. The glue that is used to hold the tape in place will also help to keep any moisture or air from getting into those cracks and causing problems down the line. Be sure to apply a generous amount of glue to the back of the tape before applying it to the wall.
I recommend keeping your car clean and free of dirt and debris. This will help keep the moving parts in your car free from wear and tear. Lubrication will help keep your car’s moving parts moving freely, but it is not necessary to lubricate your car on a regular basis.
What happens if you second coat paint too soon
Applying the second coat too early can result in streaks, peeling paint, and uneven color. Make sure to wait for the first coat to dry to avoid any issues.
Before applying a new coat of paint, sand the previous coat lightly and remove any dust with a tack cloth. This will ensure that you get the best possible result. If you plan on doing a lot of painting, invest in a pack of tack rags.
What happens if you don’t wait 4 hours between coats of paint
Be sure to allow adequate drying time between coats of paint, or you may end up with a streaky, peeling, or flakey finish. experts recommend leaving a minimum of two to four hours of drying time between coats for best results.
Water in general is bad for RC cars, but “Water Displacement 40” (WD40) will help get the water out/off your car if you have to use water for cleaning purposes, or run it wet conditions. So in general I recommend always have your WD on hand. It also does really well for flushing motors that pull dirt in.
Does WD40 soften RC
Do not leave WD-40 on tires for too long as it will soften them!
I have used Rustoleum’s Painters Touch brand paint and it WILL adhere to lexan. However, it becomes a poor choice when the paint gets too thick. The thick film gets peeler away too easily. The other issue you will have is proper cure time.
Does acetone melt Lexan
Aromatic or halogenated solvents should never be used on Lexan polycarbonate materials, as they can cause damage to the structure and surface of the material. incompatible cleaning materials can also cause problems, so it is best to use materials that are specifically designed for use with Lexan.
While Lexan is an incredibly strong and durable material, it does have a couple of potential drawbacks. One is that it can be yellowed over time by UV rays, which can impact its transparency. Additionally, Lexan can be scratched more easily than glass, so it may not be the best choice for applications where a completely clear surface is desired.
Can you buff out scratches on Lexan
If you have a superficial or deep scratch on your Lexan, you can try to polish it by heating the area with a heat gun. This may make the scratch less visible, but it will still be visible in the light. The area that you heat with the gun will also be visible on your polycarbonate.
I’m glad to hear that electronics and batteries can be made waterproof by using Tamiya rubber bags. That means I can continue to enjoy my RC cars even when it’s raining!
Can you hose down an RC car
It’s important to clean your vehicle’s chassis and wheels regularly to keep them in good condition. A low-pressure hose is the best way to wash them off. Be sure to cover the breather hole in the wheels when you’re cleaning them so you don’t take on water. After rinsing the vehicle, use compressed air to blow off the water. Use a rag to clean up any leftover water.
If your gears are dry, you can go ahead and slather them in Udder Butter. This type of grease is waterproof and will protect your gears from rusting or corroding.
Is it better to brush or roll paint on trim
If you want to achieve a high-quality final product, you should use a brush instead of a roller. It will take more time to finish, but you’ll be able to guarantee complete and smooth coverage of your trim.
There are a few things you can do in order to avoid cut in lines when painting. First, make sure to box your paint. This means mixing all of the paint together before starting your project. Second, overlap your cut lines when rolling. This will help to create a more even finish. Finally, avoid cheap paint. Cheap paint is more likely to produce uneven lines.
